Heywood Healthcare is seeking a skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our Emergency Medicine team at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, MA and Athol Hospital in Athol, MA. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality emergency care in a collaborative, community-based setting within a respected independent healthcare system serving North Central Massachusetts.

 

Heywood Healthcare is a community-owned system that includes a 134-bed acute care hospital in Gardner, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Athol, outpatient practices, and specialty services across the region. Heywood Hospital – Gardner, MA

Athol Hospital – Athol, MA

  • Ideal for providers who value meaningful patient relationships and broad-scope practice

APPs practice collaboratively across the system with physician oversight and strong nursing support, allowing providers to practice at the top of their license.


Position Highlights

  • Practice in a busy community emergency department

  • Physician-led, team-based model with experienced Emergency Medicine physicians and APPs

  • Full-time schedule: 11 twelve-hour shifts per month


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with a broad range of emergency conditions

  • Perform procedures consistent with training and scope of practice

  • Collaborate with Emergency Medicine physicians, nursing staff, and consultants

  • Document care in the electronic medical record and adhere to quality and safety standards


Qualifications

  • Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in one or more of the following:

    • Emergency Department practice as an APP

    • Urgent Care practice as an APP

    • Prior clinical experience as a Paramedic

  • Eligible for Massachusetts licensure

  • BLS and ACLS required (PALS preferred or willingness to obtain)

  • Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills
