Job Summary

Under the direction of Management, Physician and/or Nursing,performs various functions, both clinical and clerical, that assist in the delivery of patient and medical office clinical support and clerical functions. Clinical duties include: Scheduling tests, obtaining and recording patient health information, including vitals and rooming patients; supporting providers; performing tasks /schedule management to help providers run on time; bucket management, schedule review; materials management and any other duties and locations as assigned. Must learn and perform new standards and processes as they are implemented and participate in customer service and patient satisfaction initiatives. Complete any assigned training. Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures under direction of a licensed nurse
  • Collects basic health data as directed by a licensed nurse
  • Assists patients with activities of daily care (e.g. personal hygiene, toileting, nutrition, ambulation, etc)
  • Appropriately prioritizes patient care (e.g. seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources, recognizes need for emergency intervention, etc.)
  • Respects each patient as an individual; provides care that fosters the patient’s sense of dignity and positive self-regard
  • Provides thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent patient according to established standards
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment (identifies and/or removes safety hazards)
  • Provides timely and thorough information on assigned patients to supervising licensed nurse and other health care team members
  • Participates in learning for colleagues and self (attends educational programs, in-services, assist with orientation of new staff)
  • Proactively identifies risk to patient safety and identifies opportunities to reduce medical/health care errors (i.e. appropriate reporting of errors/incidents)
  • Prepares patients for physician clinic visits so that physicians can proceed with examinations without delay and so patients have their basic concerns met and questions answered
  • Coordinates all aspects of patient readiness for physician examination such as, obtains and documents vital signs, weight and reason for visit, as well as, places patients in exam room with appropriate attire for exam
  • Maintains established par levels of all medical and clerical supplies so that physicians and nursing staff have access to adequate supplies and materials
  • Orders all medical and the clerical supplies for clinical department, as well as, restocks shelves and files for physicians and nurses
  • Creates, copies, and distributes clerical materials and educational literature as needed for daily health center activities
  • Assists physicians with retrieval of patient information so that medical records are organized with up to date results for physician review and physicians are provided with test results requested to ensure patients receive appropriate applications
  • Obtains and posts all recent diagnostic results in medical records, as well as, completes diagnostic sheets, including correct coding for dictation purposes
  • Obtains optimal EKG, pulse oximetry levels, peak flow levels, as well as, applies the correct sized splints and dressings
  • Performs and documents quality control checks for urine glucose and protein testing, as well as, participates in performance improvement activities as requested
  • Prepares and packages instruments for sterilization, as well as, changes soaking solution according to the Infection Control Policy
  • Secures the building for daily closure so that all medications are locked in medication cabinets, the building is vacated and left in a safe state before being locked for daily closure
  • Locks all medication cabinets, as well as, performs security checks on windows and electrical equipment for daily closure
  • De-activates automatic handicap access to the main entrance, as well as, locks all exit doors for daily closure

Job Requirements

 

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

 

Minimum Work Experience

  • Three years’ experience preferred
  • Experience working with electronic medical records strongly desired

 

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as a team member is essential
  • Strong computer skills required

 

Required Certifications 

  • AHA BLS required or must obtain with six months of employment

 

Required Licenses

  • Active MA CNA license required

 

 Physical Requirements:

Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently kneels (bending the legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees), reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), and feels (perceiving attributes of items as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of fingertips). Occasionally crouches (bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine), and stoops (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist).
